A great start to the 2015 year with vastly improved fields. After being involved with Jonsson College Rovers from a cleaning and hygiene perspective in 2014, Superclean, through their Superlandscapes division, will be taking on the massive challenge of turning the Rovers fields around, giving them a much needed upgrade. The fields, which are used sometimes 7 days a week, as well as by parkers for the Cell C Sharks rugby matches, poses a unique challenge for Jono Gallichan, head of Superlandscapes. “The usage of the field is both high in traffic as well as unique it the type of sport played, which makes this project extremely difficult. Like many schools the field is used for multiple sports while the addition of parking make the process of improving the quality of surface even more complicated” Superlandscapes started the rehabilitation process on the 3rd of November when a fully automated underground irrigation system was installed to help increase the amount of water used on the fields. Rene De Toit, Director of Superclea, said “We have taken on a big challenge at Jonsson College Rovers, but are committed to getting the fields up to the same standard of the teams performance. Rovers have consistently been one of the top performing clubs in both the province and country and deserve a field that matches that standard. It won’t happen overnight, but we can be sure to see a drastic improvement already by next year. Paddy Doyle, Rovers temporary chairman, shared Rene’s sentiments, “We were very disappointed with the quality of both our fields this year and wanted to give our players a pitch that they were proud to play on. It’s not an easy task given the parking and high usage, but working with a great partner like Superclean has made the process that much easier.” This is the first phase in a five year plan to improve our fields. The process so far as included the following 1. Installation of irrigation automated system 2. Weed treatment 3. Scarify 4. Vertidrain 5. Raise PH Levels 6. Topdress 7. Fertilize
