A great thing about genealogy is finding out how your family has contributed to our country, local community, and family. The attached photos show me at the Mitchell-Miller family reunion in Idaho. The reunions occur every 3 years since they started 9 years ago. I have never attended before and decided the campaign could survive with me gone for a few days. The Mitchell branch of the family tree has farmers tracing back thru 7 grandfathers to the Revolutionary War to free America from Britain. Reverend Abraham Mitchell fought as an Infantry Captain in the battle of Guiford County Courthouse in North Carolina and later at the battle of Yorktown that ended the war. I didn’t know that when I entered West Point and later chose to serve as an Infantry officer. My mother’s side of the family tree has the Millers. Almost all were in the construction trades as millwrights, carpenters, or steel workers who built houses, buildings, and even with the dams along the Columbia River. Again, something I didn’t know about my history. Makes me feel my ancestors would be satisfied that I gained the endorsement in this campaign from the Monterey and Santa Cruz Building and Construction Trades Union. As I’ve learned about my genealogy, I’ve decided my DNA and genes have had more affect on my behavior than I ever realized.
