A great thought-provoking piece. Its amazing how superb insight and great writing can make you think differently and deeper about an issue than you thought you understood or knew, or even cared to for that matter. This got me thinking about how it never ceases to amaze me how much of every story or issue that is reported on and talked about, is often nothing more than an illusion, and often deliberately told and talked about in a way as to manipulate people for the greater interest of someone else or some policy. Finally being aware of this has often left me, as my friends know to well, very cynical and at times exasperated knowing how, thanks much in part to the mainstream media, systemic this very serious problem is. But I take a certain solace in knowing that over the years I have been able to break through this stagnant, illusiory way of thinking and know that I can question everything in order to achieve a better understanding of it all. And what is really amazing to me is that when you get to that deeper level of thinking and understanding what you often discover seems so self-evident that you are left shaking your head, wondering how and why you didnt you get it, or allowed yourself to be duped before. Truth, is often said to be the first casualty of war. Well, it seems like today, truth is often the first casualty is journalism. And I cant honestly can see how a society or civilization can sustain itself, or flourish, when much of it is built on an illusion.
