A group of states is going to war against Washington, and no, this isn’t a rerun from the 1860s… Monday, a group of states led by Texas made good on their threat to file a federal lawsuit to stop President Obama’s executive action to grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. As the day went on, more states kept joining the suit, until the count stood at 20. And not just Southern red states, but states ranging from Montana to Maine. The suit argues that Obama’s action violates his constitutional duty to faithfully execute the laws, and amounts to rewriting immigration law, not just exercising prosecutorial discretion. The first step is to convince the judge that the states have standing to sue because they’ll be damaged. The states claim it will cost them hundreds of millions of dollars to deal with all the newly legalized immigrants and the flood of new ones that will likely follow. Critics dismiss that as baseless speculation. I would respond that, having actually been a governor, I dismiss their dismissal. -Mike Huckabee
