A handful of funny conversations with five-year-old Kipling: Kip (speaking of his stuffed animals): “Daddy lion protects baby bear.” Me: “Oh? Is Daddy Lion a good protector?” Kip: “Yes! He knows Karate and KaPowing.” Me: “What is ‘KaPowing?’” Kip: “You know, like when you ‘Ka-Pow!’ someone!” A few days later… Kip: “I want to catch a Wooley Mammoth for my bug cage!” Me: “A Wooley Mammoth? That wouldn’t fit into your bug cage.” Kip: “Yes it would - they are really small and they have their hands stuck together.” Me: “Oh, do you mean a Praying Mantis?” Kip: “Yes, a Wooley Mantis - that’s what I said!” A few days later… Kip: “When is my birthday?” Me: “About six months - it’s a long time away.” (After a few moments contemplation) Kip: “Mama, can you please not say ‘long time away’ because I don’t really like those words!”
