A letter to the many friends who have helped us during this very sad time…. The past 10 days have been harder than any I have ever known. However with all the help and support of my wonderful friends, I was able to travel to the bedside of my beautiful granddaughter before she so very sadly passed away on Monday 1st December. Carmon was just 32 years old and would have celebrated her 33rd birthday on the 16th of this month. My darling granddaughter was the very proud mother of 4 gorgeous children who will now live their lives without the most important and dearly loved person who gave them all life. Carmon suffered from Rheumatic Fever as a child, it left her heart very weak, she suffered so much pain for years, yet I never once heard her complain. She cherished her life as a mummy and adored her children. She never had it easy, her daughter Amy suffers from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, which meant Carmon had to spend so very many hours by Amy’s beside, never knowing if she would pull through. Yet again, she never complained about the heavy workload it put on her home life as a single mum, nor did she neglect her other children, she simply took it all in her stride and did the best she could with only her mother and siblings for support. On Wednesday 26th November, she felt pain in her chest and was rushed to hospital, she had suffered a heart attack, and it looked bad. The cardiologist knew she only had a very slim chance of surviving open heart surgery, between a 2 & 10% chance was his prognosis. My daughter who was visiting me in Qld. Flew to be with Carmon the next morning, her Auntie Kylie and I followed a day later and her sister Kelly along with Carmon’s nephew the next day after me. We made it in time to see her, she didn’t look sick, she was very happy to see us and we were equally as delighted to see her and her children. On the Monday 1st December, she was wheeled away into the theatre to receive a mechanical heart or a transplant if one became available. Mr Chris Merry, the head Cardiothoracic surgeon and his team of Cardiothoracic surgeons and Cardiologists worked on Carmon for 11 ½ hours, they tried so hard to start her heart, however their attempts were in vain…. Carmon passed away at 10.25pm that evening with her family and children at her side. We were all devastated, our hearts were broken, not just because we had lost the most beautiful soul we had ever known, but for those adorable children who had lost their mummy in front of their eyes. Carmon was the kindest girl you could ever have had the pleasure of meeting, she helped and supported all who needed her. She always had a smile or a kind word for everyone, she never made excuses or denied the opportunity to offer help to anyone. Carmon was adored by all who met her. As a family, her mother, siblings, cousins, Uncle and Aunts and her many friends are deep in mourning for Carmon and her adorable children. Carmon’s funeral has been delayed until the 19th December due to the autopsy ordered by the state coroner. Sadly Kylie and I had to return to Qld. So much to our regret, we can’t be there to farewell my granddaughter in person, but we will be with her in spirit. We will be holding a private service for her friends and family here in Qld. Rest In Peace our darling Carmon, you will never be forgotten, we will hold you with all our love in our hearts and memories forever. Poppy Rocket is waiting for his glorious granddaughter...
