A little bit of history lesson/rant for those who didnt know Frank Miller is generally considered batshit crazy these days, a looney on par with Alan Moore. However, I would beg to differ and say Alan Moore as a person, is actually better. He might be crazy, might hate both DC/Marvel and Grant Morrison with a passion, but the guy is not a racist bigot like Frank Miller. I dont know what has happened to Miller in recent years, but hes not a lovable crazy guy like Moore, he is basically an ignorant racist asshole. We all know about his last graphic novel, Holy Terror. This was originally supposed to be a Batman graphics novel where Batman fights Al Qaeda. Frank Miller himself said about it: not to put too fine a point on it, a piece of propaganda... Superman punched out Hitler. So did Captain America. Thats one of the things theyre there for. Later on, DC took Batman away from this project (thank goodness), and it became a standalone graphic novel published by Legendary Comics. Miller proudly proclaimed that the book is bound to offend just about everybody. Well, that was true. After numerous delays, the book was released in 2011, and was universally panned as being VERY Islamophobic, offensive, racist, with horrendous art, and in general, not a very good book anyway. So that was that. But Frank Millers increasingly racist/bigoted/ignorant ways do not end there. During the much publicized Occupy Wall Street movement in USA during 2010-2012, he called the protesters nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists. Also, of the movement he said Wake up, pond scum. America is at war against a ruthless enemy. Maybe, between bouts of self-pity and all the other tasty tidbits of narcissism you’ve been served up in your sheltered, comfy little worlds, you’ve heard terms like al-Qaeda and Islamicism. So you see...again taking potshot at Islam. Im not the most religious of people, but I know a racist bigot asshole when I see one. Frank Miller is a racist asshole. Its sad...because his Daredevil is one of my most favorite runs of all time, and Year One will always be the definitive Batman origin for me (although I find DKR very overrated). But that doesnt take away from the fact that he is a bigot, and I have zero respect for him as a person. History lesson/rant over.
