A little food trivia that I havent yet seen on Andrew Zimmermans Bizarre Foods: It is very common, world-wide, to find sources of protein that are much more efficient and healthy than the western reliance on beef, chicken and pork. These traditions vary around the world, but one of them from the Andes region in South America, is an insect called a catzo. Every year, from September through November, these insects, about the size of beans, descend by the millions in rural areas across the region. Once caught, then fried and served with toasted corn, they become a plentiful and tasty source of protein for people. You can find many vendors on street corners this time of year. It is a food tradition that dates back even before Inca times.
