A little girl was found wandering matted and filthy and was picked - TopicsExpress

A little girl was found wandering matted and filthy and was picked up by the ranger who rang a rescuer. By the time the rescuer got there, the kind Ranger had clipped her off only to discover half her face is missing - and a shocking stench coming from her mouth area. She was taken to the vet - who said she has a possible tumour on her face as half her upper jaw is missing. :( Her back leg and hip are possibly dislocated. They doubted she would survive the night. She was sedated for treatment because she was screaming in pain. And so began the story of Flavia. This morning the vet nurse I spoke to said she survived the night but Flavia is very aggressive in her crate. No wonder. I cannot imagine the pain she is in, or has lived with. The Ranger is going to send me pics of her before she was clipped off. Again, I cannot imagine. No microchip, no way to trace owner - so we move on. The vets dont feel Flavia has much chance. The Ranger and Rescuer said she has an enormous amount of will to live. As I write, I have a driver heading to Mildura from Melbourne 540 kms, a 6 hour drive to pick up Flavia. She wont accept petrol money, she believes in what we are doing. We have a crate from a Rescuer to carry her back in the comfort of the car. So far there has been 10 people helping Flavia - by the end of the day that will probably have doubled. I will pay the vet bill in Mildura as she leaves to come back with our driver - and then she will go to Balwyn for x-rays on her face and hip. She will get pain relief and start on fluids and antibiotics. Our head vet Antony will see her early tomorrow morning. We dont know if she is going to survive. We dont know anything yet. If we can treat, we will. If we cant she will be euthanased with dignity. I will meet Flavia at the clinic later today. Am holding my breath in hope. Always in hope.
