A little history for our new friends on here This has been project of love and dedication for two army spouses, it started informally in 2009 when Selenas husband was deployed to Timor and a group of 2RAR wives got together to post Chrissy bags of donated goodies to their hubbies in Townsville Jump to 2011 Selena was visiting her friend Michelle in Sydney and saw on her kitchen table a knitted Chrissy booty that Michelles grandmother had made , can I have a handful to send to Dave who is on another deployment asked Selena. they looked the perfect size for a lifesaver packet The conversation went on from there to how to make enough for every one on the same deployment, who could help and how can we manage a bigger shipment This spiralled into what else can we send…and how many parcels... So in 2011 Selena and michelle set up Stockings for soldiers project and called out to friends on Facebook for donations to make the packs bigger. They packed in Townsville : 1500 little boxes of treats from Darwin, Adelaide, Perth, Brissy and melbourne ( and many towns in between) The Facebook page grew as did the donations and deployments and in 2012 they packed in Sydney ( packing is always located wherever Selenas Hubby is posted which gives many different people the chance to help on packing day) 3000 little brown paper bags filled with goodies to send to deployments all over the world to men and women regardless of rank or unit, even including our ANZAC cousins the Kiwis. In 2013 still in Sydney they packed 2000 hampers which were sent in sewn Chrissy stockings stamped with the projects logo. This year in 2014 only 500 stockings were packed which made for much less storage space being used in the ladies cupboards in the gathering stages of the project. Selena and Michelle are always humbled by work the elves do for the project and are grateful for all the knitting, sewing, donating that comes from all over Australia. Short Santa ( Selena) and Tall Santa ( Michelle) ( both who work full-time as well as manage this project ) will call for more help for 2015 on the Facebook page. There is a dedicated album for requests and donations for 2015 .
