A little late with our update this week for no other reason than I - TopicsExpress

A little late with our update this week for no other reason than I forgot to write it yesterday. These long long days must be getting to me. A marked change in the weather heralded the arrival of autumn this week. The evening temperatures have dropped considerably, enough to warrant a cardigan or jumper. Even during the days its best to carry something warm to put on in the event the sun disappears. Also the days are getting noticeably shorter. Getting up for work in the dark mornings remind me of the dreary drive to and from work in the UK winter when no daylight is ever seen. At least I dont have to drive to work these days :) A fairly quiet week this week on the guest front, we had our troop of Germans as well as another Swiss couple (Gert and Kirsten), a couple celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary, Carl and Ursula from PE. Plus we have had a few overnighters who booked at the last minute and were gone like the wind in the morning. We identified there was a damp problem in on of our rooms which had also been the cause of some complaints from guests. Over time the carpet had got damp which was the cause of a damp smell which seemed worse when the room wasnt aired properly. It only affected one room but people reading reviews dont know that so to rectify the problem this week we have the damp doctor in taking the plaster from the walls right back to the bricks and replacing it with special damp proof plaster. This has been a costly exercise but hopefully one that will generate a return on investment as nobody will be able to say the place has a damp problem in the future. We are excited today as the Architect is visiting to discuss the building conceptual plans that hopefully will be submitted to the Municipality in the not to distant future. The plans will allow us to rectify an existing leaking roof problem, add extended decking areas to some of the guest rooms and add additional car parking places to meet Municipality regulations. Once we have the plans approved we can commence with the upgrade of the remaining bathrooms and bedrooms. The Security team (Aguero and Negredo) have now given up gardening as a full time hobby (although it is fair to say they still have a small interest in relocating plants) and have moved into excavating. They are clearly unhappy with the front garden being at the front of the house, and between them, have decided it would be best to put it in another, as yet undetermined place. Outside of this pass time, they have also taken up cobbling, to which end anybody who leaves a shoe, sandal or slipper laying around can expect our very amateurish cobblers to disassemble it. Obviously they are reverse engineering them with a view to putting them back together once they have finished their detailed examination, but this very difficult when you have eaten most of the component parts. Today is a clear out day, we are getting rid of a lot of junk and rubbish that has been collecting for decades. Old fridges, old plant pots, old garden furniture, washing lines, chairs, tables, blinds, fans and stuff not yet identified. Everything that doesnt look good or looks like junk will be thrown away. Thats it for this week. Keep an eye open for any updates we do during the week and if you have chance please share with friends and family and encourage them to share as well. As always, please stay safe wherever you are or wherever you are travelling to.
