A lot of Ebola fear mongering going on. So far there are only TWO recorded cases in the U.S. One was a man who was infected, admitted to a Texas hospital and then succumbed to the virus. The second is a nurse who attended to him. Her contraction of the virus was due to a breach in protocol (source: CNN). An update from 4.50pm said that the preliminary testing (of the nurse) proved affirmative for contraction. There was a scare in Massachusetts, but authorities say it is unlikely the man (who returned recently from Liberia) has Ebola. As far as we know, there is NO other cases and until we do hear about it, please check your sources, especially when sharing articles. Google is your friend. Here are some bare facts about Ebola, from the professionals: 1) Symptoms include fever, flu-like body aches and abdominal pain, and then vomiting and diarrhea. 2) Ebola spreads through close contact with a symptomatic persons bodily fluids, such as blood, sweat, vomit, feces, urine, saliva or semen. Those fluids must have an entry point, like a cut or scrape or someone touching the nose, mouth or eyes with contaminated hands, or being splashed. Thats why health care workers wear protective gloves and other equipment. The World Health Organization says blood, feces and vomit are the most infectious fluids, while the virus is found in saliva mostly once patients are severely ill and the whole live virus has never been culled from sweat. 3) Ebola isnt airborne. Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has said people dont get exposed by sitting next to someone on the bus. This is not like flu. Its not like measles, not like the common cold. Its not as spreadable, its not as infectious as those conditions, he added. 4) Most initially suspicious cases in the U.S. havent met the criteria for testing. 5) The CDC says bleach and other hospital disinfectants kill Ebola.
