A lot of people are doing this ALS (Lou Gehrigs Disease) Ice Bucket challenge. If you dont know what ALS is, it is basically a fatal disease that stop the motor neurons in your brain from functioning properly.. basically the ability to control and initiate muscle movement is lost. Eventually the person becomes paralyzed. What makes the disease even more scary is that your cognitive function stays. Imagine not having any control over your entire body but still being mentally aware of everything around you. You are literally trapped in your own body. In the end because of the progression of the disease they end up dying from respiratory complications. The life expectancy for someone with this disease is 2-5 years. Its very scary and little information is even known about it. There is no cure. I remember learning about this recently in my nursing classes. Even in my books, there was only three paragraphs about the whole disease. I hope you all learned something about the disease and can pass on the information to anyone who doesnt know what ALS is.
