A luxurious and powerful class at Heartland Yoga tonight. Thanks to Kristin Marrs, yet again. A question though. When we refer to the heart in Yoga, are we talking about the organ itself, or the subconscious as opposed to the conscious mind? I remember reading somewhere about the large amount of nerve activity in and around the physical heart, pointing to the idea that the heart itelf might take an active part in mental functions. I have been thinking about non-conscious intelligence a fair bit myself the past few months. Obviously we do a lot of things without the actions springing from conscious thought - think about driving a car, for instance. We dont think Id better turn 20 degrees to the right when we get to a bend, we just turn. We couldnt function if we had to consciously decide to effect every action we take in a day. In in our interactions with other people, there are there are innumerable non-verbal cues and signs that make language the subtle and infinitely flexible wonder it is. It seems to me that we hold much more wisdom in our bodies as a whole than the tip of the iceberg that we normally thing of as our intelligence, housed in consciousness. And to use that wisdom, we have to listen heard to ourselves - our Yogic heart - and trust that innate wisdom enough to act on it intuitively. And developing that trust is a most difficult process. Discuss.
