A mail-in ballot loss by 2-1 sparked angry suspicions from candidate James Mathis in a justice of the peace runoff in Gregg County on Tuesday, and after winning the final tally Mathis continued to promise he’ll get to the bottom of the fraud he sees in the absentee vote. “It shouldn’t be like that, shouldn’t be like that,” Mathis said of the lopsided early total he overcame with almost 53 percent of the final count, taking 695 votes to Phillip “Phil” Burns’ 617.
