A man claiming to be a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputy - TopicsExpress

A man claiming to be a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputy reportedly scammed a woman out of $400 over the telephone by telling her there was a warrant for her arrest. The Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the woman’s complaint. “Our office does not solicit the payment of fines or fees on behalf of the court,” Sheriff Dave Wedding said. “Unfortunately, this is just another example of a phone scam that relies on the trusted name of a business or government entity to bolster the legitimacy of a request that under any other set of circumstances would seem outlandish.”
