A man has lost partial sight in his eye and needed 40 stitches to close a head wound after he was viciously attacked with a meat cleaver. The attack on the 34-year-old man happened on Daisy Bank Court in Newton Heath just before 5pm on 10 October 2014. Two men burst into the house and one repeatedly punched the 34-year-old in the face. As the victim tried to run out of the house onto Tetlow Street to escape the attack, he tripped over and fell. While on the floor, the second man then sliced part of his face open with a meat cleaver, leaving him a fractured cheekbone, partial loss of sight in one eye and a 20cm to his wound to his face that needed more than 40 stitches to close. The two assailants then fled in a small black car with two white stripes running over the bonnet and the top of the car. One of the men was white, 5ft 11in tall, of a chubby build and in his mid-30s. He had short blonde hair and blue eyes and was wearing a grey and white T-shirt with grey jogging bottoms and black trainers. The second man was also white but quite tanned, in his early 20s, 5ft 5in tall and of a thin build. He had short black hair which was spikey on top, blue eyes and dark stubble on his cheeks. He was wearing a navy blue T-shirt, black jeans and white trainers. Police are now appealing to anyone who has information about the attack to come forward. Detective Constable Andrea Holden-Cullum said: This man was the victim of a brutal, vicious attack that has left him with life-changing injuries. Not only has he lost partial sight on his eye, but he will also be left with a huge scar such was the voracity of the beating he sustained. Such violence is completely and utterly unacceptable. There can never be any justification for using a meat cleaver to slice someones face open and we need to find the offenders as soon as possible. I am aware they may be rumours in the community about comments this man may have made leading up to the attack, but I want to assure people we have investigated that incident fully and found no evidence of any criminality. What we need to do now is focus on this crime and the fact this man has been savagely assaulted. In particular, I would like to appeal to anyone who either knows who is responsible for this attack or who saw two men getting into this car. Perhaps you may have seen this car being driven at high speed at about the time of the incident. If you do know anything, then please come forward with any information you may have. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 3521 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
