A man walked in the restaurant, I greet him, and after a few minutes he asked me, Your menu is in Spanish, and I dont understand it, so I dont know what to get? I began to translate every single item in English for him, and did so describing every detail of every dish. Wow, you speak English so well. Youre so well spoken! Are you American? He asked. Yes, isnt it obvious? I chuckled. Well, I dont know, its hard to tell these days if someone is Mexican or American. At 1st I thought you were Mexican, but then when you began to speak I began to think you were American. A lot of people look like immigrants, but then they speak English so well, so I realize theyre American. He explained. I smiled, and then explained to him: Sir, youre making absolutely no sense right now. America is a continent, and Mexico is one of the few countries that make up America, so me being Mexican already makes me an American, and not only am I America-born, but Im also indigenous, in other words Im the real American whose ancestors were here before your ancestors came here and renamed my land America. Also, me speaking English so well has nothing to do with being American, it only means European-descendants colonize America, since English is from England. A true American language would be the Navajo, Apache, Lakota, Mexica, Mapuche, Cherokee, Maya languages spoken by the indigenous Americans who are here, and were here since the beginning. Also, when you look around and see people who look just like me, and you assume theyre immigrants, youre wrong. Theyre the opposite of immigrants, theyre indigenous, meanwhile the real immigrants are & look like you. :D
