A memory that I will never lose about the AV Fair . When I was just a we kid my first memory of the fair was the model railroad display that was beside the Ag Building to the west . Old building with big glass windows and a walk way raiser for kids so they could see the trains . It was magic and in later years my parents would just leave me there and hours later would come back with my face still plastered to that window in the same spot . Years later I was excited when the Fair Board let a group of AV Rail fans and model railroad fans the opportunity to purchase this Southern Pacific passenger car from Purdys in Mojave and set it up on the fairgrounds to build a new model rail road and to open the doors of imagination to new generations of kids . Was sad to see it didnt make the move to the new fair grounds and the loss of such a great attraction . Even today at 60 years old if this was at the new fair grounds it would give me an excuse to go for a night and be a kid again waiting for my Mom and Dad to come and get me . New Fair Board members will never understand this type of attraction to thousands of us that just want a piece of home for a few minutes each year . Is that to much to ask ? This is one train I wish had never left the station ...
