A message/call/request from one of the most amazing human beings I know, Dan Irwin: Greetings and I hope you are well. You may be aware that over the past 2 decades I have led or supported several community projects in Julieta’s village of San Andres— a beautiful community overlooking magical Lake Petén Itza in northern Guatemala. NOW, I’m about to embark on my most ambitious effort yet—to raise $77,000 through Crowdrise to purchase, ship, and build a state-of-the-art, high-capacity, commercial-grade playground to give the children of San Andres a clean, secure, and protected area to play together on safe equipment. I have the full support of the San Andres mayor and the community, with an ideal location set aside especially for a playground. Believe it or not, over 3,000 children in the San Andres municipality have never shrieked down a slide or reached for the sky in a swing. My dream is to “cut the ribbon” on the playground this December and share the joy and excitement of little children whose living environment is often pretty hard. I’m confident we can raise the money to provide a space for children where their imaginations can ignite, their spirits soar, and their shouts and laughter ring out.
