A message from Highlander 6. On this Memorial Day, let us not forget that we are still a Nation at war. Soldiers continue to pay the ultimate sacrifice every day. Recently Fort Bliss lost another hero, Command Sergeant Major Martin Barreras, to the conflict in Afghanistan. His solemn, yet noble, gift allows us to spend this holiday in joy and comfort knowing we are protected. However, we will not mourn his loss. We will reflect on the values that he embodied, and we will remember those like him. Let us remember Highlanders like PVT Bradley W. Iorio and SGT Joshua W. Soto who gave their lives so our future generations could know freedom. During Operation Iraqi Freedom 2009, these men showed us the true meaning of selfless service. Now we must honor them, and those who came before us, through our steadfast vigilance and commitment to liberty. It is with great pride that I serve beside the Soldiers and families of the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team. I thank all that have served and continue to serve our great Nation.
