A most agreeable session at the French House with my dear pal Pete Carpenter. At one point the talk turned to racism and such; you might be interested, Aminatta Forna, to learn that Pete never fails to pitch in when people express their disgusting views in public; and that, thus far, the reaction has always been surprise, embarrassment, and compliance. He has never been thumped or told to sling his hook. Mind you, Pete - in reality a gentle and kind soul - does look fairly psychotic.
