Frankingly,Nig has woken up to tackle d ugly trend whereby a sum of 1.3 trillion Naira is being spent annually on importation of rice,sugar,wheat & fish only in Nig.This he has done via his agric transformation agenda realising d fact dat it is only agric sector that has d largest potential to diversify d economy,create job,secure food supply,lower inflation n expand our GDP. Also in attainment of d vision 20:20:20 of d fed govt in line wt MDGS where Nig wl become a hunger free nation in 2015 n there wl b a ban on food importation in Nig,sth must av to b done in our planting materials( crop seeds) wc we plant.There must b quality assurance in genetic,physical,physiology n health status of such planting materials knowing dat seed is a crucial n basic input needed to boast crop yield per unit area,n to improve agric economy of d farmer n d nation @ large. Also to ensure food security,seed cos of its very impt role in setting d upper limit among all other agric inputs eg;fertilizers,pesticides,machinerise put in a position that commands great care,attention n mgt.
