A neutral status: the dilemma of Pakistans dharna: NS is the elected PM of Pakistan via may 2013 elections. There were complains of rigging, which arent the most unusual in Pakistan. With a base of 180 million people, such complains are of course going to be there. PTI emerged as the biggest surprise with it coming in power as the 2 nd most largest political force. IK accepted the defeat and welcomed NS. He did complain of rigging but nevertheless, accepted. IK Meanwhile started fighting the legal battle, a fair fight within the norms to get justice and requested, forced and shouted for the 4 constituencies initially to be recounted. Lets go back in history and recall NS and team responses. They made fun of the demand and really took a very egoistic approach. Other complains started cropping up, while development projects in Lahore and Punjab started coming like crazy, KPK and SINDH got nothing but just crumbles left over. The strategic shift of expenditure to Punjab became apparent day by day this threatening the newly forced power to feel more threatened and at loss because at the end of the day, they also need the funds. Instead of realizing and playing politics and getting more funding for KPK, IK also took a more egoistic approach to fighting this problem. He started heating up this threat of long march instead of focusing on getting more funding via political pressure, which I think, was his fair right. Both IK and NS continued on their egoistic paths and rest is history but thats where they stand today. But where is TUQ. How come he has come in. I think the script writer is a genius, they brought in TUQ to trigger the ego battle brewing. Though, I am pretty sure any mature handling of the issue would have neutralised TUQ, but NS and SS approach only ruined the process and then June 17 happened and unfortunately the 14 deaths resulted in providing the right fuel to this fire. But that aint just it, to say AAZ government was better or less corrupt then NS is crazy. NS has genuinely tried to do somethings, but his continued Punjab focus, ego stance, nawazna policy and family Inc attitude are much worse then AAZ. Plus AAZ knew how to share power, NS wants to be Mahatair Muhammad without realizing he doesnt have the right credentials to become one. So sharing is important, which his government lacks badly. Even if they try to, they fail at it miserably. Now the dilemma for Pakistan: the precedence of a million or a hundred thousand people walking to the capital and removing a sitting prime minister is dangerous and perhaps not a very good precedence to set. On the flip side, the miss managed, egoistic, a product of rigged elections being expected to be called democratic and letting it live because it cheated in the first place isnt actually implementing democracy at all in the first place. So thats the first dilemma. Secondly, the rights of the smaller provinces also cannot be secured with NS being there, but it cannot be let it at that either because we cant afford another Bangladesh happening. So thats dilemma number 2 The inhuman treatment in model town, the arrogance which government has shown on this long march by not giving in until someone twisted their arm is a clear indication that they dont intend to learn. At this juncture letting NS stay means a much more egoistic balance 4 years and a much more turbulent Pakistan. Also, if the commission says NS and SS are directly responsible for the model town massacre, can we let a criminal lead us for next 4 years? . Flip side, since the move is fundamentally wrong, how can they resign on a long march? Thats dilemma number 3 Having said all of the above, I believe all is still not lost. I only see one solution to this (army coup is of course there but if thats not to be considered): 1) choose a neutral or fair charactered person within PML N and give PMship to that gentlemen in centre and to similar characteristic in provincial (because like it or not, thats not unconstitutional. If Korean PM can resign on capsizing, lol, Alot of excuses are there for both these brothers) 2) agree on a high powered team to study and identify electoral reforms with a 2/3 majority approval already that whatever the team suggests, it will be implemented and national assembly has given that mandate now 3) the only relatively reliable and neutral player is army here with the muscle. Let the team work under the army and they are prohibited from meeting any political representatives and army ensures that. Also, the team commits they will not interact for 6 months while they do this historic work 4) implementaion of reforms with 2/3 majority already there and army overseeing and if that has since hurdles again, then coup and a final decision that democracy is just not for Pakistan due to these not trustworthy politicians 5) by 2015 have the elections and again, this time 100% under relatively neutral player and let NS or IK come in power, or AAZ or anyone else who emerges. I dont expect everyone to agree but I think, we need to resolve this, once and for all
