A new dining experience - Brazilian Steakhouse place at the Arboretum in Austin. Huge salad bar (that name doesnt do it justice) that had all kinds of exotic things on it - most of which I didnt know and sure couldnt pronounce. Then they brought you small table portions of sides - fried bananas, polenta, garlic mashed potatoes - kept refilling them as long as you were eating. Then there were gauchos that came around to each table - each one had a different kind of meat (14 kinds in all). Each meat on a long skewer. They would make a quick stop and spit out the name of the meat (we had to keep asking them to repeat it so wed know what it was). If you didnt want any of that kind they scurried on to the next table. If you did want some they either knifed off a kabob onto you plate if it was that kind of meat, or sliced off a piece (you chose rare, medium etc. and they cut from the correct spot on the hunk of meat) and you grabbed the piece of meat with silver tongs that were on the table for each person to use. The place was packed and the gauchos were bouncing from table to table like a pinball machine. Several kinds of sirloin fixed different ways; couple of kinds of lamb; couple of kinds of filets mignons; couple of kinds of chicken; sausage; couple of pork tenderloin choices, etc. I think between the 4 of us we ate at least some of almost all of the 14 kinds. They had a small card for each person - red on one side and green on the other. If you still wanted them to bring you meat you left the green side up. Once you were stuffed beyond belief you turned it to the red side 😳 We should have flipped the cards sooner! 🙊👀🐖 Wont need to be eating until 2015!
