A new film called The Penalty seeks to explore the human impact of the death penalty in the U.S. and shed light on a system that remains a mystery to so many. The struggle to keep executing is taking its toll on both public funds and the public’s psyche. Public opinion on capital punishment in the US has never been more equally divided. We find ourselves living a unique moment in history which may mark the beginning of real societal change. This film aims to document this moment, to capture this slice of history and to be a tool for the discussions on this topic that are igniting globally.
