A ‘new generation’ family was comprised of only daughters, and they feared that their father’s tribal inheritance would be forfeited because they were women. God ordered Moses to add a divine caveat giving daughters land rights. This was a significant decision in a culture where women had few rights at all. But men and women are of equal value in God’s sight, however much we might differ in our roles and responsibilities.
