A new hotel opening on Seaview St, Plans for a Multi Million pound - TopicsExpress

A new hotel opening on Seaview St, Plans for a Multi Million pound retirement village announced and early stage approval to turn Offices into flats in Sainsburys car park, it looks like there will be plenty of work in the construction industry for the near future. As if balance must be restored however, it seems one of the areas oldest and most iconic concert venues is to close its doors for the last time, citing falling income as the reason for this difficult decision. One of the largest tourist attractions in Cleethorpes I finding early success with its answer to securing much needed income, with over a quarter of its targeted 4600 season tickets already sold. Even our Council are stepping up revenue raising activity with the planning department increasing its charges for Technical Advice, and two council owned sites put on the market. There are some concerning reports of two local hostelries found to be serving under eighteens and putting their licence at risk just as it is announced that we are one of the worse areas in Yorkshire for under age drinking. It looks like our skyline will be changing for good as the decision to demolish the six high rise blocks of flats is finalised and the planned 68000 Sq ft retail complex on Cleethorpes Rd takes another step towards reality. The profile this week is on no other than the great great grandson of the areas former mayor, newspaper magnate and trawler owner Sir Richard Doughty. I do love how these profiles give us a unique insight into the real lives of some of this towns most interesting characters. I mustnt forget the wonderful memories page, this week taking a walk through the alternative D Day on May 13th 1970, reporting how this area responded to that historical day whilst listening to the sound of a local band about to sign up on Frank Sinatras record label! Music and entertainment looms large in the Whats on Pages of the Chronicle this week, with Abba tributes, guests from Ronnie Scotts, quality choirs and cracking quartets One of the great live bands, Simple Minds, is starting its UK tour at the Auditorium too. All this is music to our ears and shows any doubters that this area certainly does have its share of culture. So there you have it, just a smattering of the all the news, people, pictures and articles you will find in the best local weekly newspaper in the area. With a weekly TV guide and eight pages of local property, its worth putting your mobile on silent, letting your laptop alone and putting your ipad on charge, whilst you settle down with a cup of something and perhaps even a cheeky snack and browse the pages of the Chronicle, after all they were brought together just for you.
