A new report by Senators Markey, Durbin, and Blumenthal finds that 8 out of 12 energy drink companies market their products to children under 18. There are health risks, including neurodevelopment interactions and heart-related effects, associated with consumption of energy drinks by kids – even for those over 12. The Senators write, “Unfortunately, as long as early development of brand loyalty is seen as a competitive market advantage, energy drink companies will continue with the practice of marketing to teens in the absence of regulation that prohibits it.”
