A nice message we received yesterday via email from John Barrett who attended the show at London Irish Centre in Camden on Wednesday night, your comments are greatly appreciated ... Would you please pass this note onto The Wolfe Tones for me, thank you. Lads, Im of a similar age to your good selves, have soldiered many miles over the past 6+ decades, and have had the good fortune to cross paths with The Wolfe Tones many times, I even gave you a push start about 40 years ago! I first attended a show in the Old Sheiling Hotel, I was at the South County Hotel, the Wexford Inn for many, many performances, I was there queuing down Wexford Street on Tuesday nights to get in, thankfully I made it in most nights, some I didnt given the huge numbers. I havent been to a show since the early 90s, the last being the National Ballroom in the early 90s. So I decided to reconnect this year when you came to London where Ive resided for the past 22 years. Either because of work, family or health, I never made it to a show since then. My God, I wasnt disappointed, your singing, story telling, banter with the crowd, having the pint with the fans, hanging around afterwards to sign autographs and chat, it was a truly memorable night. Paddys Night Out was a fitting song for the Irish in London. You havent lost any of it, youre still the best at what you do and there will be no other to come close when youre gone, which I hope is not for some time. I trust that youre still loving it and thankfully appear to be in good health. I suppose in many ways you have been a touch point for so many to their own lives, everyone remembers their first time at a Wolfe Tones show, remember the friends we have met along the way, there have even been marriages made at Wolfe Tones shows, relationships that went on to make future generations might I add who now go on to enjoy your performances after over 50 years on the road. You keep it real, and sing it best, may you continue for years to come, and may I get to see you when you come back to London in the next couple of weeks, it will be 2 weeks this time, not 2 decades between shows. Thank you for the memories and for what youve given to so many, God Bless, and safe travels, John, Kilburn, London, 6th November, 2014.
