A note from a former H-trooper Allan Romer after I sent him an email, Thank you Jc Dodd for getting his info to me. David, Wow!! Talk about a blast from the past. Course I remember you. Two big things come to mind. First year Rats we went to El Paso on furlough with me, you, Dan Brantley (his car), and I think Jim Hahn. Brantley got sick at Motel 6 and threw up all over the place. We snuck out of there early the next morning. Not to mention some “interesting” excursions to Boys Town in Juarez. Second, can’t remember first name (Joe?) but last was Jimenez. He broke his arm and you painted a Vargas girl on the cast. They made him wear a sock over it but when we took Platoon pictures, he snuck his arm out enough (we were at Parade Rest) for the artwork to show. Somewhere I still have the picture around. ...Good pictures of my old roommate, Dan Lenz. We first hooked up at O’Hare in Chicago waiting for a plane to take us to Louisville and Fort Knox (Basic Camp). Always (wondered) what happened to him caused we kind of drifted apart when I was transferred to L Troop second year. Talk about good old memories. I’ve always said that I would never want to repeat NMMI, but would never regret going and the experiences I had there. Been in HR since I got out of the Army in 1990 and been in Austin since ‘97. Life is good. Somehow I think NMMI had played some part. Allan Here Allan Romer (L) trains rats on the manual of arms. August 1976.
