A number of folks have asked about Denise Acabo and her beloved shop in PARIS - A lEtoile dOr, which was destroyed by a gas leak a few weeks ago, and requested any updates. I met up with Madame Acabo today and she is, of course, devastated that she lost her well-loved shop. Shes currently dealing with the aftermath, and isnt sure of her next move - whether to rebuild or not. Its a difficult decision for her at the moment...although her greatest loss is talking to people who come in to the shop. If youve ever been in there, you know that shes an overwhelming presence and takes great interest in each and every customer, as she did with each and every candy and chocolate on her shelves. She expressed how much she loved to talk to people over-and-over. I told her that many, many people were sorry and had expressed support and I put out some ideas for her to ponder, as she and her daughter think about what to do next. So far, no decisions have been made as its too soon for her to move forward. But she was touched that so many people miss and cherish her. So its too soon to say what will happen next, because shes dealing with the present. And as we walked up the hill of Montmartre to have lunch, almost every shopkeeper in the neighborhood expressed their feelings to her, how much they cared about her and how sorry they were about what happened. But shes doing okay, coping with losing the store and missing her loyal customers - who invariably end up becoming her friends - very much.
