A pedestrian, a man in a wheelchair more specifically, was killed on a busy Phoenix street last night. Theres a poorly marked crosswalk in the area although it isnt clear that he was even using it. Im quite familiar with the stretch of road having lived very close for several years. I heard this paraphrased comment on the news this morning. Officials havent said what charges the driver will face if any. Maybe its just me but that seems to suggest that charges are somewhat likely and I think I prefer another way of putting it: Officials havent said whether the driver will face any charges. ...or even... Officials havent said whether the driver might face any charges. I too am frustrated when people try to read between the lines too much. The literal reading may be equivalent but unfortunately there are biases and connotated readings deeply ingrained in us.
