A pet-grooming business in Harlingen is fighting for its reputation. The owner says a customers false accusations are hurting his business. He called 5 On Your Side for help. Blue Ribbon Pet Grooming Owner Ray Montanaro said the owner of a Yorkshire terrier named Geo blames his business for the dogs death. Montanaro said surveillance video recorded every moment of the dogs stay at his business. He said the videos show that his groomers are not at fault for Geos death. Geo died in the arms of a groomer. Surveillance video shows the dog was anxious moments before its death. He started to tremble, shake. (The groomer) looks at him ... hugs him to calm him down, Montanaro said. The dog suddenly stopped breathing. The incident happened on March 19. You can see every second where the dog is. There is absolutely no negligence on our part. There is no accident that occurs. There is no head trauma, Montanaro said. Montanaro said Geos owner was called when the dog began having what appeared to be an attack. The groomer never left the 3-year-old dog alone. The groomer even performed mouth-to-mouth in an attempt to revive the dog. A necropsy later revealed that the dog suffered from a collapsed trachea. The report indicated that a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage caused the dogs death. Montanaro said the dog was not injured at his business. He said the dogs owner refused to talk to him after the incident. Montanaro said he never had a chance to show the woman the surveillance video that clears his employees of any wrongdoing. Instead, the owner went to media outlets and blamed the business for her pets death. If she would have let us speak and listen to us this would have been taken care of the right way, the same day, Montanaro said. CHANNEL 5 NEWS called Geos owner to get her side of the story. Let me give you a call back, the woman said, but she never called. Multiple calls to her went straight to voice mail. CHANNEL 5 NEWS also visited the veterinarian who, according to the necropsy, first claimed that the dog died of overheating. He refused to give a statement. More answers will come from the Harlingen Police Department. Investigators are looking through every second of the video. If they find something they deem to be criminal, the evidence will be presented to the Cameron County District Attorney.
