A post by Darryl Angus - thank you Darryl for sharing your experience. Yesterday near Nanango, Queensland via mobile About two hours ago, in Wondai, I got to meet a special little bloke by the name of Luke and he is seven years old. Luke was sitting in a wheelchair pretty close to where My truck wss being unloaded. He was watching me like a hawk, following every movement so I yelled out how ya doin young fella which brightened up his face but he was real shy. He was looking over every inch of the truck and trailer. I could see he had a fascination with the truck and noticed a lady with a little girl, accompanied by a much older lady whom I later found out were Mum, little sister and Grandma. Not wanting to be mistaken for some sort of pervert I asked his Mum if it would be ok to give him a closer look at the truck and in the cab, she was stoked and little Luke was beaming although he was doing his best yo have a serious grown up face on. He told me the make and model if my truck, the gear box rating and the diffs, he even had the fuel consumption perfect. Lukes Mum thanked me for taking an interest and explained to me that Luke has a rare form of Leukaemia and has spent most of his life in hospital. He has come home to die and only has a few weeks to live, a month at best. Luke was in his element and had relaxed enough to be grinning from ear to ear. So how would you like to go for a ride I said. He looked at his Mum and she looked a little nervous, lets face it she didnt know me from a bar of soap. So I said I would take them all. So Mum, Luke and little sister are snuggled up on my bed and after three or four attempts at getting grandma up the stros into the truck she finally occupied the passenger seat. The spin around the block ended up being the highway block so was a little over 30 minutes. Luke named the make, model and horsepower of every truck that we passed. His Mum said he has always loved the big rigs. He has a huge collection of all the trucking magazines, and sits on the front porch most days watching the big rigs go by. As we pulled up back at Wondai, all of the excitement had drained what was left of his energy and he had fallen asleep so I lifted his frail little body back down to his Mum but he did stir enough to give me a bug hug and tell me that that had been the best thing in the whole world. Thank you Darryl, Ill speak to you in heaven one day. From Wondai to Kingaroy I was blubbering like a child.
