A post from the Federalist papers, Id say spot on. The last time - TopicsExpress

A post from the Federalist papers, Id say spot on. The last time I read the Declaration was a couple of months ago. I actually was attempting to memorize it. The reason is that for months, the statement ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that we are all endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights, among them life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness…that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the governed–that whenever any form of government becomes destructive towards these ends, it becomes the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government, laying it’s foundation on such principles and organizing it’s powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.” Those words kept playing over and over in my mind, along with Thomas Jefferson’s words, “Indeed, I tremble for my country when I consider that God is just, and that His justice cannot sleep forever.” We are a nation that has fallen away from our God, from the laws upon which we were founded; and when you destroy the pillars upon which a nation stands, it falls. The statement from the Declaration is the entire embodiment of my political beliefs. As for the politicians and the people of this country, I go back to something that James Garfield once stated. “Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, or corrupt, it is because the people tolerate those characteristics. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand those traits from the National Legislature” Notice, he doesn’t just blame Congress. He blames the people. The fact is that Congress is a direct reflection of who we are as a people. They are chosen from our own ranks. And what is it that we base our votes on? Their image or their party? These people are master manipulators and master liars. And we the people either don’t want to recognize it, or being partisan hacks ourselves vote for those that ‘belong to our party’. That, my friends, is ignorant, it is reckless, and it is corrupt. Like Isaiah said in chapter 9:16, “The leaders of the people cause them to err, and those who are led by them are destroyed.” The sheep are led to the destruction, willingly, obediently. And what is it that is being destroyed? Their lives, their liberty, and their pursuit of happiness.
