A question prompted by another string, but not wanting to hijack it to do a leap into Godwin’s law with a hypothetical set of questions; Where and how do you separate the philosophy of the National Socialist Party from those who identified as Nazis? That philosophy was created by an Austrian and was taken up by people of many nationalities, so you cannot simply blame Germans. Not every Nazi actually worked at an extermination camp, but what of those who drove the trains? Or inspired and organized the mass killings’ but did not ever “participate”. Or those who simply “knew”? Was it the obligation of everyone to be active in the fight against, or are those who had “reasons” fairly forgiven? Let’s talk about how much responsibility a philosophy/idea/religion has vs. what individuals DO or do NOT do with it, but in the framework of this universally recognized as despicable (by most anyway) worldview, that almost destroyed civilization.
