A quote from a friend who married her 30 year partner last year, and lives in PA, where the laws against gay marriage were just shot down. Its important because it shows how its not just the big things, but also the every day moments of life that change when youre recognized as married. Ive anonymized their names since I didnt ask first, but if you know them, youll know :) Just in case you wonder how this legal marriage thing changes things- two things in the last 2 days. Have no idea if these are driven by laws, policies or attitudes but it is remarkable in any of those cases: 1. when the Dr called for [my wife], for years they told me she should call them back. Yesterday they told me the information to share with her 2. The Comcast account is in [my wifes] name. I have to tell them I am [her] in order to get them to help me ( and I have experimented with this - even after we got married) Today I said my name and said I was [her] wife- bingo - no problem and they helped me ( as much as comcast ever helps :-)) And a shout out to Peco- they never cared who I was as long as I knew my address and phone number.
