A rant from my cousin, Jan: I dont go off on a rant too often about loss of Canadas heritage but the people of Warner Alberta have been treated like doormats by Viterra. There were two remaining rows of 5 elevators in Canada. One in Warner and the other in Inglis Manitoba Canada.. thats the entire nation, all 9,984,670 sq km / 3,855,102 sq mi of it. Viterra demolished two of the remaining 5 in Warner. They did not offer the town a chance to buy the elevators or do anything with them. This is a town where the people support the wheat industry and have for over a hundred years. Viterras official statement is as follows: The two elevators at Warner were demolished as a number of issues were identified at those sites. Due to these issues, the only solution was to demolish them.. Viterra I know Viterra is a private business but that business only existed for them because of the town of Warner and the surrounding agricultural community. If there wasnt money to be made off the citizens of Warner, Viterra would never have been there. The least they could have done for such an historic site was consult with the people of Warner based on the value of the communitys support and goodwill over the years. Viterra is not on record as having done anything except demolish and issue an opaque statement justifying the demolition. Shame on the management, the executives and shareholders of Viterra. Its arrogance like this that gives industry a bad image and name and wipes out significant and irreplaceable Canadian history. Rant off
