A report on Lecanidae (Rotifera: Monogononta) from Andhra Pradesh, India, including six new distribution records with notes on their contemporary taxonomic nomenclature -- S.Z. Siddiqi & M. Serious taxonomic studies, especially revisionary monographic works on Freshwater zooplankter groups from tropical India, are long over due and merit academic attention. 2. FW rotifera (wheel animalcules), a widely distributed heteromorphic group, despite wide geographic reports, share similar fate. 3. Lecanid rotifers (Lecanidae) and taxonomic status of Indian species of genus Lecane, despite world revisionary studies, continue to remain oblivious of the current taxonomic scenario,and therefore overburdened with old taxonomic nomenclature. 4. It was therefore instructive (academiacally imperative) to bridge the lacunae and update knowledge of the group for the benefit of Indian researchers. 5. Temporary FW habitats, despite species rich faunal diversity, have only been sparingly researched. 6. Present endeavour highlights need to explore rich zooplankton faunal diversity in ponds vis-a-vis prevailing physico-chemical milleu and their importnace as indicator of aquatic environment.
