A short video of how three lighthouses were saved on Marthas Vineyard in the 1980s by Vineyard Environmental Research, Institute (VERI). VERI was the first civilian organization in U.S. history to receive a license for active lighthouses being used as aids to navigation by the U.S. Coast Guard. Contains rare video - Ted Kennedys first and only public speech on Marthas Vineyard and of Congressman Gerry Studds along with some island folks who helped save our lighthouses. This effort to save lighthouses on Marthas Vineyard, according to Ted Kennedys comments - was one of the first in New England as well as the United States. Weve come a long way since 1985 - almost 30 years ago.
