A significant relief for Officer Garret Osilka, his family and his Loveland PD family yesterday when his attacker received a 40 year prison sentence For his attempt to take Osilkas life last March. I respect the Judges decision, but I was disappointed the he didnt choose to sentence him to the maximum 48 years. Even during the sentencing, the defendant hid behind a recently created claim that his point blank shotgun blast in Officer Osilkas chest was actually a failed suicide attempt by the defendant. It was an insult to the intelligence of everyone in the courtroom to listen to what was effectively an elaborate manure sales pitch by the defendant. A huge thanks to our District Attorney Cliff Riedel. He put on an outstanding argument and shredded the ridiculousness of Mr. Powells attempt to remove blame from himself. I also must commend the community members who showed up and stood in the cold to display their support for Officer Osilka and his family during the proceedings.
