A simple prayer... Genesis 11:1, 4, 7-8 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. ... Then they said, Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth. ... [Then The Lord said] Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one anothers speech. So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city. Dear Lord, What a piece of work we are when we do not have Your Holy Spirit within us. In the garden, you gave us one command... and we broke it. Later, after witnessing Your judgement of mankind due to rampant sin... yet being a part of the remnant which experienced Your mercy through the arc, once again Your children were presented with one command: Go forth and populate the earth. However, almost immediately, mankind decided they had a better way and decided to settle in one place. This was no small disobedience. When will we ever learn that Your ways are infinitely better than our ways? Many often see Your decision to confuse our languages as an capricious act of an oppressive cranky ogre. Far from it! It was an incredible act of mercy. Your intimate knowledge of man understood that our self-declared to be awesome accomplishments inevitably feed our pride... and pride drives us away from You. You had a plan - a restored relationship between man and You through Your Son - and this early act of man to disobey Your one command and feed his pride would be very much like a moth being drawn to a flame. Your dispersion was an act of love... protecting us from ourselves. Help me to learn to trust You even when I dont get it. The sooner I embrace the truth that You know what You are doing will be the sooner I walk in peace... anxiety-free. Sounds like a plan. Even better, sounds like Your plan. Thanks. Amen
