A small bird crashed into our window this afternoon and appeared dead - knocked out and unconscious - her little body was limp and lifeless. So my wife picked up the bird for me to baby sit until it regained its energy and woke up. I held her small feathered body in my warm hands giving it all my love and energy for 30 minutes or so. Then it began to move a little and flew out of my hand onto a book shelf. I caught her again. I took her outside and placed her inside a wooden bird house I have nailed up high in my yard to protect her from cats until she was ready to fly again. After spending a short time inside the bird house she came out and flew to the nearest tree and rested there. We looked at each other in silence. I then left her alone to get back to her life as a bird. Hopefully, none of the neighborhood cats will get her as she seemed to be able to fly again. I guess in the real world this does not matter much but to that one small bird I think she appreciated it - and it kept her from being eaten up by all the roaming cats that cruise through our backyard.
