A sniper is not a trained murderer who hides in the shadows killing people for fun and country. A sniper is a man or woman. A human with human emotions and instincts. A person who chooses a life of inner torture between every target and the greater good of all of civil society. A sniper is a person who must be stronger than any other person on Earth because they need to be strong in order to choose pain over ease. A sniper is someone who sees into the eyes of a man and must pull a trigger rather than shoot at figures wearing enemy uniforms with a multi-firing weapon. Or much less than someone who never volunteered to fight for civilized society in the first place. A sniper is a person who carries every shot with them for the rest of their lives without being able to discuss the details with anyone else, usually on the basis of security for that society. It is not easy to kill someone. It is even worse when you have to look them in the eye before you do it, whether they see you or not. A sniper is a hero. A sniper is the definition of a hero. It may not be an easy thing to be on the front line of a war shooting at the enemy, but a physical battle is far easier than a mental one. Physical battles last until one side falls, but mental battles last for a lifetime. The minute you can make a sniper into a monster is the minute you lose your own humanity by stripping someone else of theirs. I get it. I may not understand it fully, because I have never had to do it, but I get it. And I salute you, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. And to every preacher who not only stands in the pulpit but goes to the streets and walks up to people and looks people in the eye and takes every effort for the sake of their soul preaches to them the Gospel, I salute you. You are a hero. Because even a mental battle may last a lifetime, but a spiritual battle is for eternity. And if that battle is not won when you take your shot, someone may die in Hell forever. Thank you. So to all snipers present and future, do your duty, aim straight, and hit your target the first time. And to all Christians, do your duty, aim straight, and hit your target the first time. Life and limb, our sacred honor and the souls of men depend on you. Our heroes. Our true heroes.
