A (sorta long) Thanksgiving Note from Scott... Today is a special day for all of us because today we celebrate Thanksgiving. But does God only expect us to be thankful today? Is it God’s will for us to be thankful only on this holiday? NO! God’s desire for us is to do His will. I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” So what shall we give thanks for? Everything! As a Christian we can start making a list of things that we can and should be thankful for every single day. We should be thankful for: • Our salvation through the Grace of God by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. (See John 3:16, Eph 2:8) • Our sins are forgiven and our place in Heaven is secured. (See Rev. 3:21) • We are not alone but filled, led, comforted, and taught by the Holy Spirit. (See Jn 6:63, Jn 14:26, Romans 8:1-39) • Suffering here on earth. Being thankful for suffering isn’t easy. We may not feel thankful, but we should have gratitude knowing that God uses our suffering. (see Rom. 8:28, 1 Thess. 5:18) We also give thanks knowing that no matter what happens here on earth, in the end, we will be with our Savior in heaven and He will wipe the tears from our eyes, there will be no more death or suffering. (See Isaiah 25:8, Rev. 21:1-4) So today, use this holiday as a time to remember and be thankful. Start by making a list of all of the gifts God has given you, giving thanks to God for each one every single day. My list started with those I mentioned above but here are a few more: • My family • My church • My health… May God bless you and keep you safe. I love you all.
