A special ceremony was held Wednesday at Wiregrass Technical College to celebrate the funding of several area institutions in the fiscal year 2015 state budget recently approved by the Georgia General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. Nathan Deal. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Sen. Tim Golden, Rep. Ellis Black, Rep. Amy Carter and Rep. Dexter Sharper were among the elected officials on hand, along with former Rep. Ron Borders. The legislative session resulted in securing the necessary funding for many projects which includes $1.9 million in pre-design funds for the $25.6 million Lanier Hall, an Allied Health Building on the Valdosta campus of Wiregrass Technical College. This addition will allow Wiregrass Tech to provide classroom space for seven medical programs and additional space for many of the colleges 17 existing allied health programs. Additionally, Wiregrass Technical College, Valdosta State University and South Georgia Medical Center presented Sen. Golden, who is retiring from the Senate at the end of this year, with a special award, which stated, In sincere appreciation for your lifetime of service to the citizens of the 8th District. Your steadfast and fair representation has benefited our organizations in countless ways. We thank you and offer our humble appreciation.
