A staff member at the SLA shelter asked us to help this dog owner - TopicsExpress

A staff member at the SLA shelter asked us to help this dog owner who had a situation where she was sharing a house with other family members who kept forgetting to close the door and the gate, allowing her dog to escape and wander the neighborhood while she was at work. Plus she had not neutered her dog and did not have a dog license. This dog owner could have easily just given up, surrendered her dog to the officer that visited her home, that sure would have been a lot easier. She loves her dog and Amanda helped her step by step. First, the ASPCA spay/neuter clinic neutered vaccinated and chipped her dog. She paid for the dog license. We delivered a dog house but when Mauricio our handyman went to look at the gate, he determined it wouldnt work. Putting a spring on the gate wasnt going to insure the dogs 100% safety. The fence was way too wobby and low. The landlord refused to help so we purchased and installed a dog run, at a cost of $239. While the dog owner is work, her dog is safe and sound, protected from the sun, wind and later the cold during the day, in the house at night with her in her room. Most important, this is a big accomplishment for the dog owner, who went through the steps to complete her notice to comply and now has a licensed healthy, dog and knows where to go if she needs assistance in the future.
