A study done in the early 1990s by psychologist K. Anders Ericsson at Berlins elite Academy of Music on the schools violinists showed that: 1. elite performers had each totaled 10,000 hours of practice 2. there were no naturals, i.e. musicians who effortlessly reached the top while practicing a fraction of the time their peers did 3. there were no grinds either, i.e. people who worked very hard but didnt get to the top Once a musician has enough ability to get into a top music school, the [distinguishing thing] is how hard he or she works. Thats it. And whats more, the people at the very top dont just work harder or even much harder than everyone else. They work much, much harder! Malcolm Gladwell, Outliers
