A sudden rush from the common room to canteen. Around 500 faces - TopicsExpress

A sudden rush from the common room to canteen. Around 500 faces (many yet to come), mostly familiar, few unfamiliar. Agiated students, unprepared canteen crew. To be precise, this was merely the beginning of an eventful, or should I say a rather uneventful night. Half an hour long session of gathering at the canteen harbouring mixed feelings - sudden ecstacy at the unruly scene(before the graveness of the situation dawned on us) followed by a sudden urge to bring the whole place down merely by raising our voices and finally patience till the authorities in charge arrived. As the clock struck away silently, we found the coordinates of mass accumulation shifting from the canteen to main entrance of our hostel and then finally to the place where we spent most of our time in the last few days of our first year. Yes, the same venue, same chairs, same projector, same professors, but, completely different students(not by the faces but by the temperaments) and different questions. I guess, what followed need not be exemplified. In the final scene of this unplanned play, the audience(who till then were the actors as well), wintnessed a moderately disciplined session with the highest authority and I am convinced that we have finally been able to voice our problems directly, in the exact manner that we have so long been discussing with our roommates. Sitting down to type this out while sleep still refuses to have mercy on me, I think I have witnessed two of the most upright and transparent people. Like every other such stand in history, this too showed us that people having a common interest(welfare of the students), could sometimes find themselves in contradicting positions at the face of crisis. By the time we retreated, all were happy with the decision. I too was happy. But what was more, I felt proud. Proud to be a part of an institute having atleast some people to whom you can look upto. No matter what time it is, no matter what issue it is. The sky outside showing a faint glow of the yet to rise sun, I laid down flat, recollecting the sequence of events of the long night. Setting the alarm at 7:45 am (with the hope that I will be able to wake up), I shut my eyes. The sky outside reflected what we hope would be the fate of our future. It turned from faint pink to mild red with a steep gradient, fading away from the horizon upward and finally, clear blue. P.S. - At 7.45, I effortlessly tapped the snooze button, put my phone in slient mode and slept. :-p
